Improve Your Health — Remember the Past in a Positive Way
According to a recent study by the University of Granada:
“when people are negative about past events in their life, they also have a pessimist or fatalistic attitude towards current events. This generates greater problems in their relationships and these people present worse quality of life indicators.”
Focusing too much on the future creates challenges too – putting future goals at too high a priority prevents living and enjoying pleasant experiences now and remembering pleasant and positive experiences from the past. This contributes to a lower quality of life.
Study participants who score the highest present a balanced approach: they learn from the past, they engage activities in the present, and they focus on achieving future goals, while feeling authentic emotions and choosing to appreciate pleasant experiences in the present. They also are physically stronger, have better mental and emotional health, are less likely to become ill, and notice less body discomfort and pain.
