Hi there. My name is Helen Daniels and I want to share with you a story about how we used the power of appreciation and taking responsibility at the small not-for-profit school of which I’m a board member.
A couple of years ago when we were a new school, we had a shortfall in the spring of $30,000. It might not sound like a lot of money but we were small and it was very scary to face into the fact that without this money we would not be able to continue the school year.
As a board, it was important that we didn’t blame each other, we didn’t create drama. We just faced into this: Yes, somehow we need to find $30,000. And the first step to do that was to present to our community.
We had an emergency community meeting and invited all the members of our community to take responsibility with us. No drama. No blame. Let’s face it and let’s choose to face forward.
The community came together beautifully and we quickly decided to launch an emergency appeal. Once we’d sorted out the logistics of the emergency appeal, all that was left to do was to support the appeal energetically using the power of appreciation.
When I appreciate myself and when I appreciate you, together we all grow in value.
So, I spent the next four days appreciating myself, appreciating the school, appreciating the teachers, the students, the parents. Appreciating the community at large, appreciating the vision of the school, appreciating whatever I could think of. And, I invited my colleagues and community members to do the same thing.
At the end of the four days we had to raise this money, we had raised $35,000, surpassing our goal. And not only did we have the cash in hand but we also had an incredible amount of good will and positive energy in our community.
The whole experience seemed magical but I have experienced this often enough to know that using appreciation and taking responsibility are reliable tools to help you achieve your goals.
I encourage you to use the tools that the Foundation teaches. These are incredible. You will see what you want appear with ease and fun when you are focusing on appreciation and taking responsibility.
